Richard Frutiger DDS
Dentistry has been the perfect way for me to combine my love of science and art in order to maintain beautiful, healthy smiles for my patients. There is not an area of dentistry that I don’t enjoy. I especially love working with adults to help them achieve complete function, health, and appearance of their smile. Over the 28 years I have practiced, I have forged many strong relationships with my patients. Each patient is unique and I find I learn so much from them every day.
I have always been a science nerd and dentistry pulls it all together. Working with implants, removable partials and dentures, and full mouth reconstruction brings me and my patients a great deal of satisfaction.

About Our Team
We have a great group of people that I have the privilege to work with. Some have been with us for just a few years but many have worked side-by-side with me for most of my career. I am so proud of these individuals and how they treat our patients and truly see our practice as their professional family. They are motivated, intelligent, and committed to always doing the best for our patients.
One of the things I am proudest of is the way our team gives back to the community. They always look for ways to help others outside our practice, whether by putting together care baskets for our service personnel in Afghanistan, setting up community health fairs, running food drives for the food pantry, or turning out for community flower planting and clean-up days.
Outside the Office
I have been blessed to be married to Dr. Sara Wassenaar for 28 years, and together we have raised our children, Anna and John. We also have a chocolate lab, Toby, who is my duck hunting companion as well as a great pet. When I am away from the office I enjoy all aspects of bicycle riding and log many miles on my road, mountain, and cross bikes. I also enjoy recreational swimming and am an avid bird hunter. You will often find me cooking for friends and family, something I greatly enjoy doing. Spending time with my family is a priority and we enjoy snow skiing, traveling, and spending time in northern Michigan.
In the Community
Practicing and living in Alma and Gratiot County has brought so much to me and my family. Living in a small town allows for many opportunities to be involved in the community which I have enjoyed over the years. Giving back to our community has always been a priority in our family. I am currently involved in the Alma-St. Louis Rotary Club, serve on the Michigan Dental Association Peer Review Committee, the United Way, and participate in many community activities.
